The canal des Pangalanes is rich in tourist stops. Among the most remarkable villages located along the canal des Pangalanes, is Tapakala and Ambodisaïna. Pangalanes is over 600 kilometers long, this canal connects Foulpointe and Farafangana, from north to south. It is navigable from Toamasina to Mananjary, over 430 kilometers. In 1896, the French general Gallieni, appointed governor general of Madagascar, decided to connect various rivers along the east coast. The canal is still today a reserve of surprises. The lush landscapes are followed by beautiful beaches and primary forests, which are the originality of the eastern region.
You will be picked up at the port at around 08 am and when you are ready enough we shall starting driving to the river port (port fluvial) which is located 3km from the main city. When we arrived to the river ports we will embark to a boat which let us enjoy the beautiful safari and great landscapes, daily life of the local people during the 01 hour safari. Canal des pangales is an artificial lake and which was created during the period of colonial times to easy the transportation of goods, crops and traditional houses materials and wood charcoal for cooking and until today it is still being used in the same way. And as our destination of the day is Tapakala village, a beautiful village which is former village of Toamasina. Today we will take a tour to the village to visit and learn about local traditions to see their houses, customs and traditions. In was in this little village the education history first found in Madagascar and speeded to many places in Madagascar as when the missionaries from London landed here and they built the first school of Madagascar. After our visit and when you satisfied enough we will head to a restaurant right by the Beach of Indian Ocean to lunch and relax visit. After lunch and your relaxation we will head back to the city of Toamasina with our boat again and before transferring you to your hotel we will visit the artisanal market of Bazar be where you will be able to buy souvenirs.
